Name: Valinmar Rellen‘thas

Profession 1: Mining
Profession 2: Jewelcrafting

Affiliation:

House Rellen’thas, Lord Vierton Rellen’thas Younger Brother

Age: 32 (Birthday, April 8th)

Short Bio:

In a world of politics and gossip, there is something to be said for keeping your mouth shut, and Valinmar has taken just that approach. Away from his family and Silvermoon for serious lengths of time, Valinmar has remained mostly unscathed by the bitter games of Silvermoon’s elite. Finding himself closer to succession than originally estimated, Valinmar has finally made his way back to Silvermoon to see how his family fares.

Physical description:

Valinmar has a sweet, honest face with eyes that smile and lips that seem to perpetually hover on the edge of speaking some great thought. His lengthy, midnight black hair appears well brushed, though it is often swept back from his face in a fox-tail of hair. Overall his appearance is neat, well put together, and quite attractive.

Personality:

Polished and urbane, Valinmar has seen much of the world and it reflects in his carriage and dealings with others. Polite and charming to a fault, it appears that the third brother of the line has managed to meld the best of his elder brothers. Not as strict or disciplined as Velurian, Valinmar is often viewed as jovial and merry in comparison But, as he is not as free with women as Vierton, he is sometimes viewed as conservative and shy.

Character history:

Under different circumstances, Lurian could have been a born leader. As the third son and seventh born child of Cian Rellen‘thas, his family expected he would support rather than lead. Lurian’s ambitious nature warred with the natural filial respect he held for his father, and a sincere desire for the success of Suncrown. At a young age, Cian pushed Lurian to pursue a career in the church; a career in magic would have suited Lurien’s temperament far better.

Nevertheless, he succeeded in the church with distinction over time. Like Lucian, Lurian took a wife for mainly political reasons. Unalla, a priestess from a family of equal stature, shared Lurian’s ambitious personality, but their marriage was one of convenience. Because of the coldly polite relationship the two shared, Unalla shocked both of their families when she announced pregnancy after pregnancy, four in total.

Valinmar was the product of Unalla’s third pregnancy and was best known as an infant for his extreme quiet and the serious look his face always shared with the world. He, like his brothers, was raised in the church and proved to be a studious, if mediocre student. With little aptitude in any specific career, Valinmar quickly found himself bounced from academy to academy.

Mage academy after mage academy found him a passable student, but with little natural aptitude for wielding the arcane or for pulling the aspects of frost or fire from the air around him. He would make a fair conjurer, he was told, but likely little more. Sullen, he returned to his home in Suncrown Village to seek guidance from his father.

His return was a scanty few days before Arthas’ Scourge ravaged their way through the Blackened Woods and then directly through Eversong to the Sunwell. Still young, Valinmar was assigned to the children of house, leading them away from the masses of undead enemies. Fearful that the small caravan would be attacked and that his lack-luster skills at magery would be the end of them all, Valinmar hustled his younger cousins to safety with all haste available. He was only able to breathe easy again when they reached safety. He lingered with them, tending and caring for them all.

As the full measure of the Scourge’s attack and the casualties thereafter became apparent, Valinmar fought through the terrors of his magical addiction to stretch his light-wielding abilities to heal those around him able to be healed. As recovery efforts continued, he pursued his studies in the light, taking on the role of a minor priest. Here again, Valinmar reached the end of his potential quickly, and it was suggested to him that he seek alternate career options.

Velurian had his eye on becoming a Blood Knight, as did Luthias, his uncle, and the option intrigued him. While his powers with the arcane and light were limited and could not be stretched beyond their limit, his physical power could be. Males were always making themselves stronger and better, able to handle more. Combine that with his lacking light-wielding skills, and he could make a decent Paladin. Willingly, Valinmar siphoned the power of the strange Naruu Prince Kael’thas sent to Silvermoon.

He trained eagerly until the gates of Silvermoon reopened. Finally showing promise at something, Valinmar accepted his assignment to Tranquillien with a certain verve and went to his post immediately, barely saying goodbye to his family. It was frightening and unpleasant in Tranquillien, but his female counterparts and their open invitations to him made it less unpleasant. Never, seemingly, noticed by the fairer sex, Valinmar quickly surmised that his growth in self confidence and having finally found his niche had more benefits than the obvious ones. He was discreet, as were his lady friends, and overall, it made his time in Tranquillien extremely palatable.

Time passed passingly-happy in Tranquillien, until eventually Valinmar was assigned elsewhere. A small contingent of Blood Knight higher-ups wished to travel through the newly-reopened Dark Portal and visit the war-torn city of Shattrath. There, they had been told, was an alien race that worshipped the light and knew many of its secrets. There were whispers that the sparkling Naaru creatures rested freely in Shattrath, and these Blood Knights wished to know more. Valinmar was selected to accompany them, and he jumped at the chance to expand on his already studious nature.

Communication between Valinmar and his family was never scarce, and it was with great regret that he head of Velurian’s plight. It was with a small smirk that Valinmar received news of Vierton’s marriage, and more recently it was with some surprise that he heard of Lindarcia’s elevation to Lady Steward. Clearly it was time for him to return. His work in Shattrath was completed long ago and he was merely lingering, the ladies of the Scryers being too exotic not to spend time with.

Arrangements made for his departure and reassignment, Valinmar returned to Silvermoon

Relationships with other characters:

Not one for gossip or hurtful words, Valinmar keeps most opinions to himself.

Opinion of various horde races:

A traveler, Valinmar has taken the inclusion of the Sin’Dorei into Thrall’s Horde with a certain acceptance and eagerness to learn. He finds the Forsaken a little unnerving, and the Orcs and Trolls a little brutal, but he has a grand fascination for Tauren and their spiritual ways. All in all, Valinmar welcomes his new brothers and sisters.
